8 Things You MUST Do in Houston Before Summer Ends!
We’re at peak summertime heat, but don’t let that stop you from making the most of the final days of your summer vacation. Before back to school shopping gets the best of you, check out these 8 activities to do in Houston during the last month of summer!
MUST Do #1: Bike along the Buffalo Bayou
The Buffalo Bayou is one of Houston’s most popular parks. Although some areas in the park have been damaged by Hurricane Harvey and the more recent Independence Day Flood, don’t let that stop you from relishing the sights and landscaping that can only be seen in this spot, such as the Cistern, a 90-year-old underground water reservoir turned art installation. Bike can be rented at Bike Barn or at one of the Houston BCycle stands.
MUST Do #2: Go to an outdoor concert at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
The Pavilion hosts performances catering to both the performing arts and contemporary artists. Guests can purchase tickets in seats or can bring blankets/rent chairs and relax on the lawn.
MUST Do #3: Cool off at Wet n Wild Splashtown or Typhoon Texas
Water parks are a must-do summer activity! And luckily, Houston has many options to choose from! Wet n Wild Splashtown is located in Spring off of i45 and Typhoon Texas is in Katy off of i10. Both parks offer a variety of slides and water activities for people of all ages that are guaranteed fun!
MUST Do #4:Have a picnic at Waterwall Park
A great place to enjoy an outdoor meal while staying cool and refreshed is Waterwall Park, located at 2800 Post Oak Boulevard. The park consists of a 64-foot semi-circular architectural fountain surrounded by 2.77 acres of green space. Rest under the relaxing mist and don’t forget to take advantage of the great photo op!
MUST Do #5: Enjoy a snow cone
Friohana Shaved Ice is one of the finest spots for snow cone lovers. Situated at 103 Sabine St, this site is a must-go-to. May we recommend trying the Natural Mango with Chamoy and Chili Powder?
MUST Do #6:Beat the heat at Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park
A great place for parties or hangouts, Sky Zone in North Spring is a great destination for an airconditioned activity! A waiver must be filled out in order to jump, but when that’s done you’re all set! Don’t miss out on Glow Night, which happens Fridays and Saturdays from 9pm to 11pm.
MUST Do #7:Tour the Museum District on Free Days
The Houston Museum District is one of the best in Texas! One of the most considerable ways to explore the District is on one of the many free entry days. .. Nearly all of Houston’s museums offer free or discounted membership during certain days. One of the most popular free museum days is Thursday, as free admission is offered at multiple locations, including the Children’s Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. MUST Do #8:Watch the a Beautiful Texas sunset at Skyspace
James Turrell’s ‘Twilight Epiphany’ Skyspace is a way to watch the breathtaking Texas sunset like you’ve never seen it before. Reservations for the sunset light sequences are mandatory and get booked almost instantly so make sure to secure your spot before the time comes.
