2021 New Year’s Eve Activities in Houston
Looking to ring in 2021 the right way? We have put together a full list of options that the whole family will enjoy—whether it’s virtual or in-person, there’s truly something for everyone!
Daytime Family Fun —While you’re off from work, it may be enjoyable to do something with the family that you wouldn’t normally have time to do. The Seismique Interactive Art Museum is open this week, including on New Year’s Day. This is a unique way to spend the last day of the year with your family. This museum features 40 exhibits from both national and local artists and allows guests to wander into a tech-fueled, interactive, intergalactic-inspired art exhibition.
Evening Fun—We can imagine that you’d like to regain some normalcy in your life after such a weird year, so here are some public activities that you can attend this New Year’s Eve.
- Our Houston Rockets are playing their first home game of the season against the Sacramento Kings at Toyota Center from 6-8:30pm, so start the evening off right with a good old-fashioned basketball game.
- The patio at Eight Row Flint is transforming into Whoville on New Year’s Eve for a Whobilation Celebration How the Grinch Stole 2020 celebration. The bar will serve as “The Grinch’s lair” and the DJ will be spinning all your favorite songs with a champagne toast at midnight! Plenty of restaurants are holding New Year’s Eve events and celebratory meals with live music and complimentary sparkling beverages, make sure to make your reservations now as there will be limited seating for most options. Virtual Events—If going out on the town for New Year’s is not an option for you this year, here’s some virtual events that you can still enjoy! Join the fun from the safety of your own home.
- Be sure to tune into ECHOrchestra’s Rockin New Year’s Eve Virtual Concert. Their performance includes music for all ages to enjoy from 10:30-11:30am.
- Have a good laugh with stand-up comedian Chinedu online from 8-10pm on New Year’s Eve.
Post-New Year’s Activities—Once the New Year’s festivities are over, there are still many activities in Houston to start 2021 on a positive note.
- The BLCK Market Houston at Buffalo Soldiers National Museum will be open New Year’s Day with no cover fee! Shop from local vendors and artisans at the BLCK Market, home to more than 50 small black businesses and entrepreneurs, happening at the Buffalo Soldier National Museum. 6pm-10pm.
- Contemplation & Sound for New Year’s Day Crystal Bowls meditation on Vimeo. If you want to start the year on a healthier note, join this class led by yoga teacher and founder of Bayou Bliss Yoga, Dana Shamas, will be held online (with registration required) at noon.
- New You New Year event at Town Center Park—On Saturday, January 2nd, the annual event at Town Center Park will take place, featuring a variety of fresh beginnings such as shopping, food, and plenty of family-friendly activities with no cover charge! This will take place down in Kingwood from noon to 5pm.
